Recycle Your Old Prescription Glasses: We Will Pick Them Up In Loving Memory of Ed Theriau

I write this post with a heavy heart.  July was a month filled with sorrow for us at Sunshine Senior Services.

On July 9, 2017 at the age of 81 years, Linda’s dad, Ed Theriau, passed away suddenly at Chinook Regional Hospital.

Ed was one of the kindest men I have had the great pleasure of knowing.  He was married to his loving wife Edith for 61 amazing years.  Ed and Edith had so much love, and it always filled my heart to see how they adored each other.  Ed had a gentle heart, was a great teacher to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  His family adored him and loved nothing more than spending time together as a family, laughing, loving and making so many good memories.

Ed battled with diabetes and because of his condition lost his vision in his later years.  He took it all in stride and never had a bitter heart because of it.

The CNIB was a group that Ed became very involved with and was an invaluable resource for him as he learned to manage his day to day life with his loss of vision.

The Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) passionately provides community-based support, knowledge and a national voice to ensure Canadians who are blind or partially sighted have the confidence, skills and opportunities to fully participate in life. Founded in 1918, they are entering their 100th year of operation – and celebrating a century of changing individual lives and society as a whole.

One of the programs that is run through the CNIB is the Lions Recycle For Sight.  They are looking to collect as many old prescription glasses as they possibly can.  The LERC volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. Recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in low and middle income communities where they will have the greatest impact.

Yesterday, Linda and I took all of our old prescription glasses down to the CNIB location for the Lions Recycle for Sight.  It was something that we have been meaning to do, but because these organizations were so important to Linda’s dad, we put it on a priority list to get it done.

As we were talking, Linda and I have decided that we want to help collect these glasses in memory of her Dad.  So while we are out and about driving,  we will be doing is picking up your old glasses and bringing them in to be recycled for you.  This service will be done in loving memory of Linda’s dad, Ed Theriau.

If you do have any old prescription glasses that are just hanging around your house, and you are unable to bring them in, please call or message and we would be happy to pick them up for you.  Let’s try and raise awareness and support the Lions Club International and this very valuable program.

Heather and Linda

Summer is a Time for Holidays and for Family

Isn’t summer the best time for making family memories?

Going on vacation, going camping, or to the lake with family and friends.  It is also such an important time to make those good memories with your own children.  But it can be difficult when you are in that “sandwich generation” where you are caring for both the needs of your children and your parents.

Sometimes it is hard to get away when you worry about your parents at home.  Especially if you are looking after many of their care needs for things like grocery shopping, errands, doctors appointments or just stopping by to visit with them and make sure everything is okay.

Door Through Door Service

We can help you with that.

We have several clients that are wanting to do just that, head out of town on vacation.  We are able to schedule times to stop by and check on your parents,  pick up groceries, run errands or whatever they need.

Let Sunshine Senior Services be an added support for you when occasionally you are not able to manage all of the care needs for your parents.  We can set up something that is exactly suited to meet your parents and your needs.  We are very flexible in the service delivery options that are available to you.

ServicesIn addition to being a “senior driving service” Sunshine Senior Services can provide companionship, and check-ins to help you ensure that your parents needs are being met.

Give us a call today.

With Warmth and Respect,

Linda and Heather
